Last week, I shared a few wallpapers that had caught my eye for potential use on the ceiling of my future walk-in closet. If you missed those wallpaper options, you can see them in this post: Wallpaper Options For My Closet Ceiling.
So I ordered a sample to be really certain that it looked that pretty in person before ordering enough for the closet ceiling. And in person, it’s absolutely gorgeous.
But I had two thoughts about it. First, I think it might be too dark to go on a ceiling. I knew it was dark when I ordered it, and I thought that I would probably be fine with having a dark wallpaper on the ceiling. But when it comes right down to it, I’m a white ceiling kind of person. I very specifically and intentionally paint my ceilings white because I like them to be bright. The hallway bathroom is the only room in our house that doesn’t have a white ceiling, and while I love the ceiling in that room, there’s no doubt that it makes the room feel smaller and darker. (This is obviously an older picture back when the room actually looked finished.)
I don’t mind that in a small guest bathroom, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized I’d rather have a light, bright ceiling in my closet.
But quite honestly, the second thing that I thought about this wallpaper is that it’s really too pretty to be relegated to a closet. This wallpaper is spectacular, and I actually want to save it for a much more prominent place on our house. I think our future dining room would be the perfect place for it. That room will be right in the center of the kitchen, music room, and living room. (And yes, our future kitchen will be either the same or a very similar color.)
But that means that I needed a new wallpaper for the closet ceiling, and I found the perfect one. This time, I headed to Photowall.com, which is where I purchased the mural that I used behind the bathtub in our bathroom…
They have a huge selection of murals, and you can customize the size, so I knew I was sure to find the perfect mural for my closet ceiling. I specifically searched for “watercolor floral”, which gave me lots of results. And then I just looked for one that had the right colors.
I chose this one because it has more orange in it than the others. And since orange will be a prominent color in the bedroom, carrying that into the closet just made sense to me.
But I also get my touches of pink like I wanted. Once the mural is cropped to fit the ceiling in my closet, it’ll look more like this…
The wallpapered ceiling will only be in the closet portion of the room, and not in the laundry area of the room. I have an idea for how I’m going to separate the two areas to make them feel more like two separate spaces, but I’ll share more on that later.
